About us and our History
Kenny McKinven & Roy Colville started McKinven &
Colville in early 1962 carrying out various joinery
works. Based in various yards in the town centre they
expanded the business to become one of the major
building contractors in the Kintyre area.
In the early nineties Calum & Barry, sons of the
respective partners, became involved in the day to day
running of the business, becoming partners in 1994.
In 1998 the new partners set up a building arm to the
existing joinery workforce to maintain high customer
satisfaction with in-house controls over existing
outsource works. This area of work has strengthened
still the Company’s position as a major building
contractor in the Kintyre area.
From 1976 till early 2002, McKinven & Colville carried
out their business from Argyll St., in Campbeltown
centre. In December 2001 the partners made the positive
step forward of investing in new premises at Snipefield
Ind Est on the outskirts of the town. These new premises
meet all the strict criteria that is required in the
business sector today and also creates a professional
image to the strong client base, which puts the Company
in a strong position for the future.
With the continuing demand for quality from clients, the
partners rely upon their present experienced and highly
skilled staff to train apprentices with the values that
the Company has laid its foundation on over the past
forty years. The Company endeavours to recruit
apprentices on a bi-annual basis thus maintaining high
standards. Work experience placements are offered to
local potential school-leavers. This gives valuable
experience of the building trade to pupils and is one
route used by the Company in the recruitment of
apprentices.
Over the years the Company has undertaken various
projects on a Main Contracting and Sub Contracting basis
with various clients including Argyll & Bute Council,
Argyll & Clyde Health Board, Fyne Homes Housing
Association to name but a few. With the present
workforce and network of sub-contractors the Company can
undertake contracts to a value of £500,000. Work
undertaken ranges from minor jobbing repairs to major
refurbishment, from home extensions to complete new
house & commercial buildings.
Firmly based on traditional values, McKinven & Colville
also incorporate the best of modern practices and
innovations in materials, production and management.
While computers are used to assist in the offices, it is
appreciated that there is no substitute for a skilled
workforce and for the personal touch in dealing with
customers.
McKinven & Colville endeavours to satisfy fully, showing
the Company's commitment to meeting Clients'
requirements.
The Clients of McKinven & Colville can be assured of:
